Raised at the Comice Horticole, Angers, France. First fruited in 1849 and introduced into Britain by Sir Thomas Dyke Acland 1858. One of the finest pears, it is grown commercially throughout the world and in a small scale in Britain. Pale yellow & juicy.
Howgate Wonder apples
Isle of Wight, 1915-16. A Blenheim Orange and Newton Wonder cross. A very large apple that can be quite sweet and pleasant when eaten fresh but basically a cooking apple.
